Studio trip : Singapore

Laselle college of arts. Especially built for the creative minds. They have an interesting green space in the middle but pity, it is kinda hot, the wind doesn't blew through the courtyard that much. A mistake in the orientation of the building maybe? Or maybe because of the construction site just next to it.

Universal Studio
(YES i went there again)
this time totally PUAS because i rode on Battleship Galactica roller coaster 3 TIMES,
F YEAH \m/ all time favourite, the Blue ride aka CYCLON!
But this time they have 'upgraded' the Red ride aka HUMAN with shoulder safety belt, last time there is only waist safety belt. So there is not much thrill as the previous one. I remembered the last time i rode that, i totally didn't like it because i felt like i can be thrown out of my seat

The Pinnacles @ Duxton, reminds me of Linked Hybrid

The Marina Bay Sands

The Helix Bridge

The Henderson Wave. Pedestrian bridge made of wood with steel structure

The Interlace by Ole Scheeren (former OMA), still in construction

Bishan Public Library

Reflections at Keppel Bay by Daniel Libeskind, still in construction

Rapid Prototyping Model

Using Rhino + Grasshopper, then we printed it at the Engineering Faculty, free of charge haha. 1 group of 2 members, so there are 15 models.

Overall of the models

This is mine & Farhah's. Simple, well it's because i don't know how to use Rhino, this is the best i could do.

Give my fingers a chance for em to keep on tuning

Is it because i still feel that i am lacking in something?

A day at the site

Couple of weeks ago i went to the site in Shah Alam with my boss and 2 of my officemates to see the process on how to build concrete footing on site.

Overall view of the site

It was raining earlier that day so rainwater was collected inside the formwork. But the contractor said its OK because by the time the concrete been poured into the formwork, the denser concrete will push the water out of the formwork.

Since it is a flat land and the ground condition is good, no piling is needed. 1st they pour the concrete one 'bucket' at a time and while doing that, a vibrator which looks like a thick hose will be put inside it. This is to ensure that there will be no air trapped inside the concrete so that when it dries, 'honeycomb effect' will not occur. Then after the formwork is full with concrete, all of the workers will move on to the next formwork leaving 1 worker to do the flattening and tidying works of the concrete surface. After that the concrete footing is left to dry.

Well it's not a crime for us to take a picture or two ^^

Over the last weekend

Alhamdulillah~ i got a call from UiTM, calling me for an interview for Master of Architecture next week. I still haven't start my portfolio yet >.<, maybe tonight... 1st time i will be going to the interview without my friends =(, i hope this will turn out to be great *praying~

Last Friday we celebrated Ziela's birthday at Williams, Shaza who just came back from Australia also joined in. The red-velvet cuppies are all thanks to Miss Ida. Sangat sedap ok! Ida, u don't mind if i want to be ur future customer for this right?

On the next day, Ziela and I went to Shaza's big bro wedding at Seri Pacific Hotel, KL. His face was beaming with big smiles and happiness ahaahah~ Dapat le tuw~~ joke joke xP. Anyway congratulations on your wedding Abg Zaffri, may u and your wife be blessed =). Oh, and the food was super nice, especially the butter prawn and air batu campur~ nyum nyum

After that, Ziela and I went to IKEA for some window shopping, but Ziela ends up bought a thing or two. We then quenched our thirst with Starbucks' Frappucino with the CLEO coupon that i got. After dropping Ziela at her house, i joined Red, Aden and Sopey at Ampang for dinner and later a midnight movie, KL Gangster. It is awesome! I like it! The only thing that is slacking is the way the movie ended, they should have tell us like in a motion on how they all turn out to be, not just by telling us by using a narrator =_=

Shaza still hasn't taste the infamous froyo. So yesterday, after officework, Red and I meet Shaza at Wangsa Maju's Tutti Frutti for her very first froyo! BTW thanks Shaza for the treats heheh~ After that we watched Kunfu Panda 2 at Wangsa Walk yes, 3rd time for me, but i don't really mind hahah. Yesterday will be the last time i hang out with Shaza before she went back to Aussie this Thursday, gonna miss u babe ='(. Take care~ and good luck for your final semester!

Fake Eggs

Fake Eggs - by Japan's food documentary

I'm not being rude or racist here but i just wanna state that people in China really is a master in making fake things especially branded items. But this thing doesn't really 'affect' me since I don't really care about brands. I am a cheapo. I don't mind as long as it is nice, comfortable to use/wear and affordable. Besides, cheapo things tends to be much more prettier than the original branded ones =P. But making and selling fake food is beyond.. bearable. It is hazardous to health! The fake food can cause cancers and brain damage! The eggs purely made of CHEMICALS, not even a tiny drop of natural resources. Haven't these people thought that.. what if my family accidentally eat this?? I.. just.. can't... OMG ;_; and the hell they make fake grapes too! wfnwerhfuiernhfuiewrmfwer

Debating with doc regarding Architecture and Engineering

Last night, i had an appointment with the doctor for my health issues. While doing some check-up, he asked me questions regarding my working life until this :

doc : So where do u work?
me : at Ampang Hilir, an architectural firm
doc : ooh~ so u are an engineer??
me : err no.. im an architect (almost)
doc : yalah, engineer la kan?
me : No! im an architect.
doc : isn't Architecture under Engineering? bukan sama ke??
me : [getting defensive] No, it is not!
doc : really? i though it is the same???
me : No!

Dear citizens, Architecture is NOT under Engineering. According to my understanding after 4 and a half year of studying and almost 1 year working experience (including practical training), Architecture is the whole, while Engineering is more to specific. Architecture is the process or its field of work that always associated with creativity/art, consists of designing and constructing a building or space. Engineering on the other hand is the deeper level in constructions, which is the system and structure of the building/space. It implemented the knowledge of mathematics, physics & others law of science into the construction to achieve the perfect structure.

Search the internet if u are disapproving. Net is the biggest library in the world.

A chance to live in the Fallingwater??

Fans of Frank Lloyd Wright's house Fallingwater have long been able to visit the architect's modernist masterpiece as a museum, but soon they can enjoy the house almost as if they were living in it.

Curators of the house built amid a waterfall in the leafy Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania will offer a new program, Insight Onsite at Fallingwater, where visitors will spend one full day and two evenings at the residence, enjoying the house as it was intended.

Main redah je

supposedly there were a lot of people who wants to visit the site, but at last only 4 of us left and we got lucky alright! we were just 'hanging out' outside of the site (we cannot go in since there is an on-going construction) when aden n red bravely enough to interview one of the workers who just walked out of the site and he suggested to take us to see his boss! we got the opportunity to meet the head engineer of the project plus got a free tour! although we came there without any appointment and looked like tourists *especially red who looks like he's going to hit the beach, but the boss gave us safety helmets and a full tour of the site~ lucky lucky! n the best part is, we also got the actual-completed site plan! yay!

after that, we visited the main lake of the botanical garden. it was beautiful! we felt so alive after the tiring tour. it has the varieties species of flowers n trees. it's naturally shaded with big trees
thus giving us the calming effect. the residents here sure are lucky... a wonderful place to jog n ehem dating.. =P
